Insects (British Columbia)

Insects are our friends

Phew! Spring comes around each year, along with its share of small critters! Whether we like seeing them again (or not!), bugs play an essential role in the balance of nature on Earth. Our young entomologists will learn about the anatomy of insects and spiders, with hands-on access to our magnificent collection of real-life specimens under glass to understand the stages of their growth, how they live and how they communicate with each other!

Objectives at the elementary level:

  • Describe and associate parts of the anatomy of the insect (head, thorax and abdomen).
  • Describe the different changes in the form of insects during their development.
  • Describe the particular characteristics of different insects (way of life, anatomical particularities and habitats).
  • Understand how certain insects communicate with their own species.
  • Art & craft workshop on insects.
