Chicks – 1 workshop (British Columbia)

An effortless project!

Easter is on its way. It’s the season of eggs, but not only chocolate ones. We mean real eggs! Dazzle the kids, and yourself, with this great project that gives you the chance to witness the birth of adorable baby chicks. This turnkey project includes the delivery of fertilized eggs, incubators, brooders, feed and bedding, training in the use of the equipment and returning the birds to the farm. The hardest part is having to say goodbye to these adorable offsprings…

Second option: workshop project (1 visit)

1) Baby chicks workshop (60 min):

Workshop explaining the birth, with training on the use of equipment and care of the eggs (one week) and babies (one week). Growth observation sheet provided.

2) Delivery of 6 eggs, litter, food, an automated incubator and chicken coop (for a period of 15 days):

You have the choice of using your own incubators and brooders or renting our equipment.

3) Returning the baby chicks to the farm and/or equipment:

Provide a large cardboard box to transport the baby chicks.

Objectives at the elementary level:

  • Describe the role of the male and female in reproduction.
  • Describe the fertilization stages that will be reproduced in the classroom (incubator).
  • Describe the development of the embryo (oviparous).
  • Present the tasks and conditions to follow to increase the chances of survival for the chicks.
  • Record the development of each chick on the notecards given for this purpose.
  • Distinguish between a male and female chick.

Our needs

  • Provide storage space for the chicken cook, incubator and litter.
  • Access to electrical outlets is required.
  • A large cardboard box containing wood chips is needed for returning the chicks.
  • 5 teams must be created before the science animator arrives.

Important information

  • The 1st and 2nd visit can be made on the same day – conditions apply on delivery.
  • You have the choice of using your own incubators and brooders or renting our equipment.
  • Profaqua is in charge of delivery of eggs, 0.9m3 of litter, 1.5 kg of food and returning the chicks to the farm.
  • The project is carried out over a period of two weeks.

Additional charges

  • The equipment must be clean before the animator arrives on the scheduled day; otherwise, a fee of $50 plus taxes will be charged.
  • Travel costs (minimum $ 25) based on distance apply.
  • The equipment rental fees of $60/week, for a minimum of two weeks are included.
  • In 60-minute workshops, if there are more than 5 groups on schedule, the workshops will be spread over more than one day and the transportation costs will have to be adjusted accordingly.
  • Additional fees will be charged if there is a delay of more than 90 minutes between two workshops.
