Electrolysis and electric battery (British Columbia)
The electric power of liquids!
Clean your old jewellery and make chlorine from table salt using water and electricity! Together, we will learn how these phenomena work through experiments on the conductivity of water. We will then compare the luminous intensity of an LED bulb in the presence of water or salt-enriched water. Following the footsteps of Mr. Volta, we will then make an electric battery out of lemon juice to power an alarm clock! It will electrify you!

Objectives at the elementary level
- Demonstrate how to chemically break down molecules into other elements.
- Assemble simple electrical circuits.
- Understand the principle of conductivity.

Our needs
- A sink must be available close to the areas where the animation activities will take place.
- If there isn’t much time between activities, it is strongly recommended to set up the animation activities in the same area.
- Six teams must be created before the science animator arrives.
Additional charges
- Additional fees will be charged if there is a delay of more than 90 minutes between two workshops.
- Travel costs (minimum $ 25) based on distance apply.
- In 60-minute workshops, if there are more than 5 groups on schedule, the workshops will be spread over more than one day and the transportation costs will have to be adjusted accordingly.
- In 90-minute workshops, if there are more than 4 groups on the schedule, the workshops will be spread over more than one day and the transportation costs will have to be adjusted accordingly.
