Throughout history, humans have always developed a number of devices to increase physical strength and make work easier. Come learn about the different types of simple machines (lever, inclined plane, pulley, winch, screw, and wedge). Build levers and compare their effectiveness (using a dynamometer) in lifting a 1-kg load as part of an actual scientific study. Your little Newton must then decide what leverage position wins the fight against gravity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For 30 more minutes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Find out which simple machine is the most effective in lifting a 1-kg mass? The lever or pulley? To find out the answer, we will build different possible pulley combinations and compare our results with those of the lever.
