But how does it work? Discover the exciting relationship between magnets and electricity. This workshop will give youths the opportunity to show off their technical prowess through four experiments that demonstrate the permanent magnetism of electromagnets. \u00a0They will gain a deeper understanding of the phenomenon of magnetic induction and make an electric motor produce a brilliant shower of sparks!<\/p>\n<p><strong>For 30 more minutes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You get a chance to meet Bob our Lego\u00ae expert, who will make an impressive entrance in levitation. Discover how you can convert an electric motor into a generator!<\/p>\n<h2><strong><u>Objectives at the elementary level:<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Understand the principles of electricity.<\/li>\n<li>Differentiate between a magnet and an electromagnet (induction).<\/li>\n<li>Identify situations in which magnets are used.<\/li>\n<li>Describe energy transformations from one of its form into another (e.g. hydraulic energy into electric energy).<\/li>\n<li>Identify objects that use the principle of electromagnetism.<\/li>\n<li>Recognize the effects of magnetism in magnets (attraction or repulsion).<\/li>\n<li>Use different components of a simple electric circuit (wire, power source, lightbulb and switch).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong><u>Objectives at the secondary level:<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Understand how electromagnets work.<\/li>\n<li>Describe the magnetic field produced by a current-carrying wire.<\/li>\n<li>Describe the magnetic field produced by a solenoid.<\/li>\n<li>Compare the behaviour of a compass in the magnetic field of a magnet with the magnetic field created by a current-carrying wire.<\/li>\n<li>List ways of changing the intensity of the magnetic field produced by a solenoid (type of core, current intensity and number of turns).<\/li>\n<li>Explain the use of solenoids in technological applications (e.g. earphone, electric motor and magnetic crane).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blast off to fun!
