Our young scientists will explore this phenomenon using our incredible Van de Graaff generator (250,000 volts) and Wimshurst machine. These experiments will make their hair stand on end!<\/p>\n<h2><strong><u>Objectives at the elementary level:<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Describe what electricity is.<\/li>\n<li>Understand the concepts of atoms, electrons, protons, as well as positive and negative charges.<\/li>\n<li>Understand how lightning is formed.<\/li>\n<li>Distinguish between magnets and the electrostatic phenomena.<\/li>\n<li>Know the difference between conductivity and thermal insulation.<\/li>\n<li>Understand how this electricity manifests itself in everyday life (car, carpet or balloon)<\/li>\n<li>Understand why static shocks are more common in winter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong><u>Objectives at the secondary level:<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify static electricity as the transfer of electrons from one body to another.<\/li>\n<li>Be familiar with the electrification methods of a charge.<\/li>\n<li>Associate elementary particles with their electric charge (protons, neutrons and electrons).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Describe the behaviour of electric charges opposite or of the same sign close to each other.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A shocking encounter!
