The big, bad wolf can always try blowing, but animals are ahead of the game! They are protected behind their shell, armour, lodge, nest, hive and hole. Placing animal figurines on the right country, associating an animal’s card with its home, browsing through our collection of books, drawing your favorite animal and handling real-life specimens of animal homes (hive, bee’s nest, shells, beaver lodge and nests) are among the fun and exciting experiments that we offer your biologists! The great architects had better watch out! Lots of competition ahead!

Objectives at the elementary level:

• Describe the physical characteristics that demonstrate how an animal has adapted to its habitat.
• Describe the behaviours of a pet that make it possible to adapt to its environment.
• Identify habitats as well as animal and plant species associated with these habitats.
• Describe how animals meet their basic needs in their own habitat.
• Describe the relationships between living things (parasitism and predation).
• Explain animal adaptations that have increased their chances of survival (e.g. mimicry and camouflage).
